25th anniversary of G-SHOCK: Rapper Kanye West performs at grand party in New York City
New York, May 2008 - In 1983, CASIO launched the first-ever G-SHOCK watch - with over 60 million units sold G-SHOCK affirms itself as one of the world's most popular watches. Now in 2008 CASIO has shocked the world with their 25th anniversary celebration of the brand that fused cutting-edge technology within a fashionable accessory that is still the must-have of today. On May 14th, 2008, G-SHOCK celebrated its historic 25th anniversary in style at Guastavino's in New York City.
To commemorate this milestone; several hundred G-SHOCK fans from the editor and business community came out to pay tribute to a brand that has provided consumers with the most cutting edge technology, radio controlled technology and tough solar power available in a fashionable timekeeping device. Artist Eric Haze and film director Spike Lee each designed their own exclusive G-SHOCK model. Live on stage they revealed to the audience why they themselves are such big fans of G-SHOCK: "I've had a long good relationship with G-SHOCK now for about 10 years. G-SHOCK is a kind of leader in sports watch and some technology. Especially with the last times model we did I was given a lot more freedom to do the band, packaging and the 25th anniversary logo at the back of the box", said Eric Haze.
The star-studded celebration kicked off with music from DJ Cassidy and closed with a spectacular performance by rapper Kanye West, who is touring with his "Glow in the dark" show throughout the States at present. Even more US celebrities partied with G-SHOCK: actresses Danira Ramirez, Lindsay Price, Jessica Straup, Shenae Grimes, model CariDee English, choreographer Laurieann Gibson, designer Jonas Benaqua, Sincerely Ward and many more.
